Why is Blogging Important for Ranking your Website on Google?
Ongoing blogging is a an important piece of the marketing system for mental health websites. The larger your website is, the higher you’ll rank in Google. There’s a direct correlation between ranking and the number of pages on your site.
A good example of this is if you ever search for something related to therapy, chances are Psychology Today is going to rank at the very top of the list. Why is that? There are many reasons why it’s at the top, but one reason is that it has a large number of pages—it’s a huge website.
This is why Psychology Today, Wikipedia, and WebMD are the sites that are ranking higher: they have many more pages than most local therapist’s websites.
Having a larger website is key to ranking higher on Google, and the easiest way to grow the size of your website is to add pages via blog posts. Every time you add a new blog post to your website, it’s going to add a new page to your site.
Your Blog Must Be On Your Website
Your blog must be integrated with your website versus having your blog on Blogger.com or WordPress.com. Your blog has to be part of your website to impact the size of it.
We recommend 100 pages as a good goal for your website. If you can get 100 pages total on your website, that’s going to help your Google ranking a lot. Again, the easiest way to grow the size of your website is by blogging and adding new blog posts each month.
Another reason why blogging is so important for ranking is because valuable blog posts increase the visitor site duration, aka how long someone stays on your website each time they visit. Keeping people on your site means they’re more likely to turn into your clients.
Having high quality, valuable blog posts increases your visitor site duration, which is going to help with your Google ranking and growing your client base. Also, Google does like to see valuable content and a site that is not static, aka a site that’s rarely updated.
Adding valuable content to your website is really important for Google to rank you higher.
How Often Should You be Blogging?
We recommend blogging at least once per month, and that’s the minimum. If you can’t manage more than one post per month, then it should be a high-quality post. It’s more about quality than quantity—which is why having a good idea for your next blog is paramount—but if you can manage more than one high-quality blog post every month, then go for it. Also, we recommend a minimum of 600 words per post.
