[notification style=”warning” font_size=”12px”] UPDATE: If you have run your site through GetListed.org before, and now see a big change in your score, the reason is most likely that the algorithm has changed quite a bit since SEOMOZ bought Getlisted.org. You should re-run your business through the tool to re-establish a new baseline score. Here is an article on that. [/notification]
Every local therapist should have an optimized google local listing. Optimizing your listing is an important way to increase visibility and rankings in Google and other search listings.

There are several facets to optimizing a listing including :

  • adding photos and video
  • optimizing for the correct keywords
  • optimizing your website with local address and phone, and
  • getting several reviews from local colleagues.

Once this has been accomplished, the next step is to build citations. Citations are listings in directories, both local and national, that include your business name, phone and other information exactly as it appears in your Google listing. This helps the search engines tie everything together, and adds weight to the importance of your listing in the eyes of Google.

GetListed.org’s LocalDashboard™ tool  is a great place to start this process. This free tool can show you how (and if) your business is currently indexed in local search engines and provide you with concrete places where you can start to list your business, including directories like superpages, hotfrog and citysearch.  It will let you know where you still need to be listed, and what information you need listed there so that your citations are consistent and complete.

Your results will show a % complete  – a good target to shoot for is 90%.  The helpful “to-do” list will lead you to the places where you can login and create or add to your free listings.

Citations should be continually built for your local listing – and this free tool is a good place to start. The directories listed on this site provide a solid foundation to start your citation building from.
