Normalizing the Issue/Need

The questions in this section explore why your potential client's issues are common (or uncommon). This is your opportunity to “normalize” the experience and make it less intimidating to seek help.

5. How common are challenges among the clients you serve?*

You can provide statistics or speak more generally (e.g. “every therapist can benefit from supervision” or “many schools across the country are in dire need of mental health consultations, but they don’t have the resources”).

6. Give specific examples of issues in your client’s profession, practice, or community that may contribute to their challenges (this describes the “why” or “cause” of the issue—or factors that influence it).*

7. Why do your clients struggle to overcome challenges on their own?*

(For example: lack of resources, don’t know where to start, lack of awareness around the problem, etc.)

Offering Solutions, Hope, and How/Why You Can Help

The answers to these questions allow you to go into more detail on your specific approach/methodologies, skills you teach, how sessions work, and what clients can take away from them. Imagine the client is standing outside the practice door -- this section is the invitation/selling point.

Addressing Questions and Concerns

At this point, many potential clients aren’t quite ready to commit to taking advantage of your services yet. By addressing these concerns, you can build rapport and increase the chances they will stay on your site, and improve the quality of consultation calls/first sessions.
